PREMIERE

von Bingen, John Taverner, and William Billings. Early holiday music

Yule and Christmas Music from Medieval Hungary.
Anonymous 4
A quarter-century ago the early music movement took a remarkable
turn with the advent of Anonymous 4. Never before had a vocal quartet
of women combined scholarship with the strong ability to connect
with audiences. The group's pure tone, precise ensemble singing and
pioneering spirit created a sense of occasion. To celebrate this
anniversary, The Wood and the Vine, a section of an evening length
work by the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang will be given
its Los Angeles premiere. Excerpts from such best-selling CDs as
An English Lady Mass, American Angels, as well as 11,000 Virgins,
which helped introduce audiences to Hildegard of Bingen, will also
include holiday music from bestsellers On Yoolis Night and The
Cherry Tree, among others.
The artists, Ruth Cunningham, Marsha Genensky,
Susan Hellauer and Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek will be available after
the concert to sign CDs including Secret Voices to be released
in November 2011. |
